Although mouthwash is often looked at as a lesser oral health habit in comparison to its oral hygiene superhero counterparts such as brushing and flossing, mouthwash is still a helpful fighter in the never-ending battle against tooth decay and gum disease. However, not all types of mouthwash are designed for the same purpose. Some are designed to fight halitosis, or bad breath, some are designed to protect your teeth and gums, and some are designed simply to whiten your teeth. Know which product and service can suit your needs before use:

– Consult with your dentist to determine which mouthwash products are safe and can be used effectively.
– Look for products that are approved by the American Dental Association with the ADA Seal of Acceptance.
– Some mouthwash products are highly effective at reducing plaque, removing food particles from your mouth, and washing away harmful bacteria and acids. However, no mouthwash product should ever be used in lieu of brushing or flossing your teeth. Always continue your normal daily habits and supplement your care with mouthwash if desired.
